Creating More Than a House: Building a Place to Begin Again

A renewed life. A fresh start. Redemption. These are some of the very best things in the world and you get to be a part of it with us!

Nicole Howerton, Director of Operations for Safe Places Miami, is a dear friend of our Denver team and truly like a sister. Safe Places Miami is a sister organization to us here in Denver, and we have the privilege of coming alongside this sister in Christ and sister organization as they prepare to open their first home.

This week, the Safe Places Miami home will be fully renovated, and the doors are ready to open. It is a victory we don’t take lightly. This home represents countless prayers, hours of labor, and the belief that women deserve a place where they are truly safe.

But as Nicole shared with me, a house, even a beautifully renovated one, is not yet a home.

That’s where we come in. We are inviting you to fill this house and turn it into a home. Right now, we have the opportunity to help shape what this home will feel like from the very beginning. It needs to be more than merely functional; it needs to be intentional. More than sufficient, it must be filled with care.

You’re invited to come alongside Safe Places Miami by helping furnish this home.

The simplest way to do that is by shopping their Amazon Wishlist:

We believe God is deeply concerned with restoration, not just of circumstances, but of identity, dignity, and hope. Throughout Scripture, we see His heart for the vulnerable, His desire to bring people out of darkness and into places of safety and renewal. We believe He uses ordinary people with willing hands to do meaningful work.

Furnishing this home is not just meeting a need; it’s participating in what God is already doing, restoring lives, renewing minds, and creating space for healing to begin. For the women who will walk through these doors, this space will be more than shelter. It will be their first experience of stability, dignity, and peace in a very long time.

Every detail matters, because what is placed inside these walls will quietly communicate something powerful:

You are safe. You are valued. You are worthy of care.

Nicole said it this way, “Furnishing this home is not about filling rooms, it’s about helping restore what has been taken.”

Imagine what will happen here:

In the kitchen, meals are shared around a table where people can slow down and sit together. Here, laughter will return, stories will be told, and a community will form.

In the living room, a deep breath, a new moment of rest without fear, and conversations and prayer will take place in a space that feels warm and welcoming.

In the bedrooms, a woman will lie her head down in a bed that is her own. A place where she can finally rest.

In every corner, life skills will be practiced, confidence grows, and hope begins to take root again.

Whether it’s a bed, a table, or a simple household item, every contribution becomes part of someone’s fresh start. We often think transformation happens in big, visible moments, but often it’s in the little things.

In a clean room. At a table where someone is welcomed. On a couch where it finally feels safe to exhale. In a bed that belongs to her alone. This is more than furnishing a home. It’s helping create the environment where healing can begin. Thank you for stepping into this with us, and for helping make this house a home.
