Inspired to Reach Further: The Heart Behind Our New Street Outreach Ministry

Earlier this month, a few of our staff members had the opportunity to travel to Houston to take part in an outreach event with Elijah Rising, a powerful organization devoted to ending sex trafficking through prayer, intervention, and restoration.

During their time in Houston, the team trained with Dawn, Elijah Rising’s Intervention Coordinator. For the past four years, Dawn has fearlessly led street outreach efforts, building authentic relationships with those working in some of the city’s highest-trafficked areas. Her heart, courage, and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.

The training included hands-on outreach late into the night, meeting women where they were, offering small gifts, prayers, and most importantly - genuine compassion. Dawn shared that the goal isn’t to shut down the locations where exploitation happens, but to build trust and relationships with the women over time. As she explained, consistency opens doors for real conversations. Real conversations can lead to healing, faith, and freedom.

The experience was deeply moving and transformative for our staff. It stirred something in all of us - a calling to extend the same love and hope we pour into our safe house into the streets of Denver.

That’s why Safe Places for Women is launching a new street outreach ministry, inspired by what we witnessed in Houston. Volunteer teams will go into areas of the city where exploitation is most prevalent, offering seasonal items, snacks, water and prayer to those they meet. Over time, we hope to establish a consistent presence, form lasting connections and share the hope of Jesus with those who are ready to receive it.

To help make this possible, we’ve created Amazon wish lists filled with the exact items used in these outreach gift bags - things like toiletries, snacks and small tokens of comfort. Each item purchased directly supports our volunteers as they prepare to bring compassion and light into dark places.

When we conducted outreach in Houston, we also met people experiencing homelessness - each encounter felt like a divine appointment. We believe the same will be true here in Denver. God has already begun writing this chapter, and we’re honored to be part of it.

If you’d like to support this new ministry, you can visit our Amazon lists below and purchase items directly for the outreach. Every gift, prayer and act of kindness helps us reach further - and remind every person we meet that they are seen, loved and never forgotten.
